Wholesale clothing and other wholesale merchandise can net you a pretty good profit by selling through e-bay auctions. Finding a good wholesaler can be a little tricky sometimes, however.

There are lots of companies that call themselves wholesale distributors on the internet. If you do a quick search in Google or Yahoo, or even an eBay search, for “clothing wholesale” or “clothes wholesaler” you’ll get a rather large list of pages.

Most of these so-called clothing wholesalers are not truly wholesaling their products. In most cases, anybody who visits the site can buy from them. In some cases, they might even require you to pay a fee to “join” their site and buy from them at what they call wholesale.

How Can You Tell If You’re Dealing With a True Wholesale Distributor?

Firstly, a true wholesaler will only deal with a company, not a consumer. They will usually require a company name and tax ID# when you order from them. You don’t necessarily have to be an incorporated company – a proprietorship that is “doing business as” is just fine. If you’re ordering from a wholesaler and need a tax ID#, the requirements can vary from state to state. Check with your local government office or do a quick search on the internet for more information on getting this number.

A wholesale supplier also shouldn’t charge you for access to their site. At least, a true wholesaler doesn’t do this. They sometimes have minimum order quantities and other restrictions, but they shouldn’t charge you to buy at wholesale.
