eBay May Have the Biggest Online Car Auction, but It’s Not the Only Choice

eBay Motors has become the biggest online car auction site in the few years it has been operating. People on eBay selling cars has grown to almost a third of eBay’s total annual revenue. On any given day, more cars are sold by noon on eBaymotors.com than most car dealers sell in an entire year.

The eBay auto auction is not the only car auction on the internet, however. There are plenty of other auction sites as well. Many of the other, smaller sites focus on specific brands or models of cars. If you’re looking for something more rare or collectible these other sites can sometimes have more to choose from.

What Other Resources Are On the Internet for Buying and Selling Cars?

If you’re buying or selling your car in an online auto auction, you should have an idea of the current book value of the car you’re interested in. That way, you’ll know how much is too much to spend or too little to sell for.

Yahoo has an area on their website called Yahoo Autos. It lists new and used cars for sale, but it isn’t an auction site. It’s more of a classified site with fixed selling prices. They have a great tool for checking the Kelley Blue Book price of any used car on this site. If you’re considering a car auction, this can give you an idea of price.

If you go to the Yahoo Autos page and into the “used car” link, there is a link there to the Kelley Blue Book lookup feature. It is designed for people in the US as it asks for a zip code, but even if you live in another country you can use it to get a rough estimate of value. Just use Google or Yahoo to find a zip code in an area of the US that has a similar climate to yours.

Insurance

Insurance is usually a good idea but in general, it should be an optional feature, with the decision left to the buyer. Remember two important things about insurance. First, insurance is VERY inexpensive. Therefore, in your description, you should state how much insurance would cost and recommend it. Second, you should also state in the description that if insurance is not purchased, you are not responsible for lost or damaged items.
