When eBay started the first online auction site in 1995, it was really just a convenient way for collectors to buy and sell their goods and keep in touch with one another. In the years since, on-line auctions have grown into large marketplaces for almost any kind of item.

There are many auction websites besides eBay. Some of the more popular ones include:

You can buy almost anything you’re looking for on these sites, from those hard-to-find collectibles to cars, boats, even airplanes.

eBay Itself Operates Many Different Auction Sites

eBay.com is the website most people know, but eBay operates a number of other auction sites as well. They have the eBay auto auction, eBay Motors, eBay Stores, and Half.com. They also operate a number of international auction sites including:

eBay Canada

eBay UK

eBay Australia

eBay Hong Kong

They actually have 23 separate international sites, each tailored to fit the local market. These websites can be accessed from the main eBay home page. At the bottom, they have links to all the other websites.

Auctions are not the only option with eBay, either. They have stores that sell items at fixed prices instead of through auctions. Many large companies, including Disney, Dell and IBM, sell through an eBay Store.

Insurance

Insurance is usually a good idea but in general, it should be an optional feature, with the decision left to the buyer. Remember two important things about insurance. First, insurance is VERY inexpensive. Therefore, in your description, you should state how much insurance would cost and recommend it. Second, you should also state in the description that if insurance is not purchased, you are not responsible for lost or damaged items.
