Finding an Internet Auction Site

Do you know about internet auctions? Have you always wanted to participate in an online auction? Or maybe you have some things around your home that you would like to try to unload through an internet auction site.

Finding an online auction site is not hard. A quick search engine search will do the trick. If you do this, you are likely to find hundreds of links to eBay. eBay is the largest and most popular online auction site. Millions of people auction e-Bay every day.

Participating in an Online Auction

It’s pretty easy to participate in an online auction. To auction on eBay, you are first going to have to sign up to the site. You simply fill out your name and email and request a user name. You will also choose a password to protect the privacy of your account.

eBay suggests that you do not use your email address as your user ID because this leads to spam and possible eBay scams.

After you have set up your account, you can start bidding on auctions. You submit your maximum bid and then eBay will automatically bid for you up to your maximum bid amount. If you are outbid, e-Bay sends you an email to let you know so you can re-bid if you want.

When you start out on eBay, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Read all auction descriptions thoroughly – check to make sure the seller will ship to your location, what methods of payment they accept, etc. If there are any requirements you can’t meet, look elsewhere.
  • To some sellers the worst eBay feedback is none at all. If you’re a brand new user, you won’t have any feedback and you will find some sellers who won’t sell to you. Once you have a couple of successful auctions with feedback this won’t be an issue.
  • Take a good look at the eBay home page and click some of the links to other areas of the site to get a feel for the different services eBay offers.
