ebay.ca - how to get better deals than on ebay usa

Why Would You Browse on eBay.ca Instead of eBay USA?

ebay.ca is the eBay home page for Canada but you can buy and sell on this site even if you don’t live in Canada. Sometimes it makes more sense to use it than eBay USA. ebay.ca can sometimes serve up better deals and many of the sellers deal in US currency and ship to the US, just like on eBay USA.

An advantage of ebay.ca for buyers is that there are not as many bidders on the site as there are on eBay USA (ebay.com). This often means items can be won with a lower bid because not as many people bid on them.

Another way you can sometimes profit by bidding on ebay.ca is with the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar. Because the US dollar is worth more, you’ll often find your bids will work out to less, once converted to US$, than the same items on eBay USA.

How To Check eBay.ca Bid Prices in Other Currencies – on eBay USA, eBay UK or Other International Sites

When you browse on ebay.ca, you’ll find that many sellers list their auctions in US dollars. Even on the international auction web sites like eBay Canada and eBay UK, many of the buyers are from the US. If the listing was posted in US dollars, it will show both the US$ current bid and the equivalent in Canadian $.

However, if the ebay.ca listing was posted in Canadian $ it won’t show the US equivalent. There is a quick trick to find out what the current bid is after the dollar exchange in a case like this is. If you look at the address bar in your browser, you’ll see a long URL something like the following:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?xxxxxxx...

To see the same listing on eBay USA, just change the “.ca” to “.com”. This will switch from the ebay.ca site to the ebay.com site but still show the same listing. Now you’ll see the equivalent bid in US$. Incidentally, this will work with any international eBay site. If you wanted to see the equivalent bid in British Pounds, just change the “.ca” to “.co.uk” and you’ll be switched over to eBay UK. “.com.au” would switch to eBay Australia.
