The eBay Online Auction Site Gets Some Strange Things ListedThe eBay online auction was originally started as a way to buy and sell collectibles. It has grown into much more than that, offering more than just on line auctions. They have the eBay Store system, eBay auto auction, and more. In addition to all the usual buying and selling activities, e-Bay can sometimes be quite entertaining. Every so often, someone will post an auction that is strange enough to gain the attention of the media. In recent months, an example would be the “eBay wedding dress guy” who was auctioning off his ex-wife’s wedding dress. This auction got worldwide press and an incredible amount of hits on the auction. Even “Holy” Items Get Auctioned on eBay From Time to TimeThe latest media event that has been spawned on e Bay is the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich. According to the auction description, the sandwich was made about 10 years ago and when the lady started to eat it, she noticed the likeness of the Virgin Mary in the sandwich. She kept it in storage and had a run of good luck with the lottery, among other things. When she listed it for auction on eBay, it got over 1 million hits and the bidding was as high as $29,000 before eBay cancelled the auction. Other related and copycat auctions inevitably pop up on eBay after these kinds of media events. There are currently t-shirts, underwear, websites and more that are all to do with the Virgin Mary sandwich being auctioned on eBay. These kinds of auctions come and go, but they inevitably become a part of our pop culture. People who have never logged onto the internet in their lives still know about the eBay wedding dress or the Virgin Mary sandwich. Start at HomeWhen you first get started, it can be a little unnerving. The best option is to start by looking around your own home. Think of items that you would sell in a garage sale. However, instead of pricing each item and lugging it outside hoping for a nice sunny day, you can advertise them on the Internet.
