Do you like computers or need a new computer? Are you familiar with eBay? If so, you have probably seen an eBay computer auction. There are many computer auctions on e-Bay and they can give you a great alternative to buying a computer brand new or retail.

The only catch regarding buying computers online or at auction is that you need to be familiar with what you are buying and you need to know exactly what you want to buy. It can be confusing when buying a computer and you don’t want to end up with something from an auction that you can’t actually use. You also should know how much you want to spend – when you’re online bidding in an e-Bay auction it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and bid too much.

Just like with a computer auction, you need to know just what you need and you need to be able to understand what you are getting so if you buy one discounted or for wholesale, you can get the right type of computer. There would be nothing worse than thinking you were getting a good deal on a computer online and then getting it home to find out you can’t use it or it doesn’t have the features you wanted.

When buying a computer online – whether in an auction or not – double-check the following things before deciding:

• What is the return policy – both for defective and unsatisfactory units?
• Is there a restocking fee to return it?
• How are warranty repairs handled?
• Do you have to ship the computer at your cost for service?

Make your decision with the above points in mind – not strictly based on price – unless you are comfortable with handling computer problems yourself.
