buying on ebay - finding hidden deals

Buying on eBay Can Be Exciting, but When Shopping on eBay Buying at the Best Price Can Take a Little Extra Searching

If you’re looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind item for buying on eBay, the chances of getting a wide range to choose from is low. In a case like this, you may not find a “hidden” deal, so you’ll need to know what you’re willing to spend before you bid. When you’re searching for that special book, CD, or whatever else on eBay buying can become an emotional reaction – you need to have an idea of what you are willing to spend so you don’t get caught up in the heat of the moment.

If you’re looking for something that is more common, chances are you’ll have a few to choose from when buying on eBay. When you do a search on eBay buying the first items listed often won’t get you the best price. You’ll get a page of all the items that match your search, sorted so the auctions ending soonest are at the top. At the top of this list, there are some links to change the sort order. You can change it to be sorted by lowest price first, newest listings first or highest price first. If you change it to the lowest price first, you’ll be able to find the auction with the lowest bids. Sometimes you’ll get some real bargain on eBay this way.

When Buying on eBay Get the Most Out of the Search Function

There are a couple of ways that you can sometimes find “hidden” bargains in your searches when buying on eBay. First, when you are searching, use the “Search” link at the top of any page on eBay. It gives you a lot more detail that you can use in your searches compared to the search from the eBay home page. When you search using the search form, check the box that says “search title and description.” Sometimes when people list things, they don’t use the same words that you’re using to search in their title. There might be a match in their description though, so using this option sometimes turns up more deals.

Another trick to finding bargains when you’re buying on eBay is to search for mis-spelled words. For example, if you’re looking for an Apple Ipod MP3 player, you might want to search for “I-pod” as well as “Ipod.” I just ran these two searches and found two listings for 40GB Ipods. When searching for “Ipod” the auction ending soonest had a current bid of $510. The search for “I-pod” ended up with the soonest ending auction with a current bid of $350. Both were brand new according to the description, but there was a $160 difference! Which would you rather bid on???

One last trick that can sometimes turn up bargains when you’re buying on eBay is to search for “ex-husband” or “ex-wife” in both the title and description. Sometimes people are selling off things that were left behind after a marital split, and you never know what kind of bargains you might find!
