online auction sites - eBay auction and more |
|
Are Those Other Auction Sites Worth Bothering or Should You Stick to the eBay Auction? There are many online auction sites on the internet. Most people think of the eBay auction when they think of auction sites, but they are by no means the only one. There are other familiar names, such as the Yahoo auction, and there are many smaller, more specialized competitors to the eBay auction. If you start searching for auction sites, you’ll find many names you maybe have never heard. Sites such as ePier, uBid, OnSale, Auctionfire and eBid will be just a few of the sites you’ll see beyond the eBay auction. You’ll also see auction sites that have more familiar names such as Yahoo and Amazon. Large or small, there are lots of alternatives to the eBay auction. How Do These Other Auction Sites Compare to the eBay Auction? Can these other auction sites really compete with the eBay auction? In some cases, they’re not trying to. There are some smaller auction sites that cater to specific products or interests. They may not have the selection that you’ll find on eBay but they have more specialized items, and often more knowledgeable buyers and sellers. Other auction sites like Yahoo Auctions are really trying to compete directly with eBay. There are often minor differences from the eBay auction process, but in general they are very much the same. In some cases, these other sites are started by people who are unhappy with some aspect of eBay (sometimes even to the point of creating an “eBay sucks” site). These alternative auction sites have some advantages and some disadvantages. If you’re a buyer, you can sometimes find better deals than you would on the eBay auction, since there are less people bidding on any given item. This has a downside too – for sellers – because there are less people to bid on your items. If you’re selling in large quantities through online auction sites, the eBay auction gives you the most flexibility. Most of the auction management services like Auctionwatch or Marketworks only work with eBay. If you plan to build a large business through auctions, you’ll probably end up on eBay whether you like it or not. Related Articles
